Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne Rose

After having completely modernised the recording studios and revolutionary Provençal estate, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie decided to partner with the Perrin family once again in order to extend the brilliant Miraval philosophy and produce fine rosé champagnes.

To ensure the success of this new challenge, Rodolphe Péters, one of the finest names among infamous champagne families, embarked on the Fleur de Miraval adventure.

In 1858, the winegrower Gaspar Péters married Miss Doué, owner of two hectares of vines.

His grandson, Camille Péters, became an innovative winegrower who harvested and handled his own champagne from 1919. Since then, six generations have succeeded each other at Mesnil-sur-Oger and continue to perpetuate the ancestral passion and excellence.

Fleur de Miraval is poised on the Péters family’s 20 hectares of land, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Located a few kilometres south of Epernay, a formidable terroir lies on chalky soil which holds plentiful amounts of water.

The vines on the hillside are east-facing, protecting them from the western winds. Comprising 16 hectares of classified Grands Crus and with vintages marketed in 70 different countries, Rodolph Péters has all the necessary qualities to elevate the reputation of Fleur de Miraval to the level of Château Miraval.

Moreover, the Champagne owner shares a deep desire to create a new style of rosé champagne with the Miraval teams. With Fleur de Miraval, they all intend to create a rosé champagne where harmony and nobility provide the ensemble with a new structure and balance.

To achieve this, a blend of Chardonnays of different ages makes up 75% of Fleur de Miraval rosé champagne, completed by 25% of young Pinot Noirs which give the mineral expression of the Chardonnay a fruity and acidic edge. And if indeed “the art of rosé is now available in Champagne“,

it stems from the very heart of the Fleur de Miraval House

Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne Rose

This blend of Chardonnay grapes of different ages makes up 75% of the final Fleur de Miraval blend. The remaining 25% is from young Pinot Noir grapes, which gives the wine its subtle, pink color.

Its tangy notes of red currant and red raspberry energize the delicate minerality, salinity, and iodized expression of the Chardonnay grapes. The wine is then aged on lees in the dark cellars in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for three years before being released.

Seal of quality

Exclusively Rose 2 2021 Edition ER2 is characterized by the intensity that is the signature of the grand crus of the Côte des Blancs and by the complexity of its perpetual reserve. A delicate, slightly coppery pink.

Second release from the exclusive new rosé Champagne from Chateau Miraval owned by Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie and the legendary Pierre Peters in Champagne.

95 Points Wine Spectator:  “This graceful rosé Champagne layers a rich base of roasted almond, toast and smoke accents with nectarine and pureed raspberry fruit, oyster shell, blood orange zest and chalk notes. Fresh and fluid on the palate, with a creamy mousse consisting of fine, pinprick-sized bubbles. Long, rich finish. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Drink now through 2030.” Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne

Champagne Fleur de Miraval is the first Champagne house dedicated exclusively to the production of Rosé. This project, five years in the making, is a collaboration between three families: iconic winemaking families Champagne Pierre Péters, in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Famille Perrin of Château de Beaucastel in the Rhône valley and Château de Miraval owners, the Jolie-Pitt family.

Fleur de Miraval is singular in both its ethos — exclusively Rosé — and production. The house, located in Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger, focuses solely on the Côte des Blancs.

This first edition is 75% Grand Cru Chardonnay, from Cramant, Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil, blended with 25% Pinot Noir from Vertus 1er Cru, made in the saignée method. The Chardonnay comes from a perpetual cuvée started in 2007, a system that winemaker Rodolphe Péters has perfected at his family Domaine.

About Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne Rose

An extraordinary achievement this, made by the famously difficult saignée method, yet with a wonderful onion skin colour and poised aromas of lemongrass, small red berried fruit and pink grapefruit.

Rodolphe Péters from the eponymous Champagne house in Le Mesnil sur Oger demonstrates why he is seen as one of the very finest winemakers in Champagne, coaxing wonderful complexity from his reserve wines ( aged in a solera) and ensuring definition and purity from the base wines, the purity and elegance of the 25% Pinot Noir component quite breathtaking. Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne

Despite the relatively modest time on lees (three years), there is definite pedigree here, and, given the aspiration to forge a new style of rosé, a triumphant aura of complexity and latent potential.

Rodolphe already has a reputation for making some of the finest Chardonnay-based Champagnes; now the inspired partnership with the Perrins of Beaucastel, who, it has to be admitted, know a thing or two about red wine, has yielded a hugely impressive debut for the Fleur de Miraval.

Behind these two winemaking giants there is the owner, a certain Brad Pitt, who has achieved a degree of success elsewhere (!) but who has been surprisingly hands-on with this project, as of course he is at sister company Miraval in Provence.

Not a bad team, all in all. What’s more, this wine is appreciably different to the other prestige rosé Champagnes on the market, without in any way losing out in terms of profundity, or, at a more basic level, the power to give pleasure. The very high expectations have been matched… and then some! –  Simon Field MW, Decanter

A pale rosé Champagne, lightly copper in color, with an appealing nose of ripe fruit and spice. Lightly mouthwatering and satin-like on the palate, a harmonious version that layers ripe notes of white cherry, blood orange sorbet and nectarine with savory accents of salted almond, oyster shell and saffron. Not a powerhouse, but finely-detailed throughout, and long on the well-cut finish. – AN, Wine Spectator

Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne

The NV Fleur de Miraval Exclusivement Rosé 1 is the first release from a new Champagne house formed as a partnership between Rodolphe Péters, Marc Perrin and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt that focuses just on Rosé Champagne.

In developing Fleur de Miraval, Péters and Perrin observed that they were generally not happy with the way most Rosé Champagnes age, especially the Pinot components, so they set out to create a Champagne that essentially blends young Pinot with Chardonnay from both the base vintage and older vintages.

The debut release of Fleur de Miraval is 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir. Chardonnay components are equal parts base vintage 2016, a perpetual reserve that goes back to 2007 and bottled 2008 and 2009 Champagne purchased sur-lattes (already in bottle, but not disgorged).

The Pinot Noir is from Vertus, just south of the Côte des Blancs, vinified as a saignée, and then added to a base of white wine. Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne

In tasting, Fleur di Miraval is bright, taut and focused. The cranberry, orange zest, chalk and floral notes sizzle with energy. Not surprisingly, one of the inspirations for Fleur de Miraval is Krug Rosé, and that influence is evident in its style, weight and flavor profile.

Because of its recent disgorgement, Fleur di Miraval is extremely tight, but it opens nicely over several hours. This is an impressive debut. It will be interesting to see what future releases bring. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. – Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne

Based on the 2016 vintage, the NV Exclusivement Rosé 1 is the impressive debut release from Fleur de Miraval. Bursting with aromas of blood orange, white tea, raspberries, lemon, warm bread, and biscuits, it’s full-bodied, layered, and fleshy, with a vinous profile and tangy acids, concluding with a mineral finish. Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne

It’s a blend of some 25% rosé de saignée from Vertus, with the balance Chardonnay, the base vintage being complemented by around one-third reserve wines dating back to 2012 (which Péters created from bottles “remis en circle”), which are now stored in a wooden foudre. – WK, Wine Advocate

Aromas of dried strawberries and flowers with some fresh peaches and white pepper. Fragrant wine. Full-bodied with a creamy texture, fine bubbles and a fresh, delicious and soft finish. A friendly and delicious wine. From actor Brad Pitt and his French wine project called Miraval. Drink now. – James Suckling

Not sure I’d have picked this as a rosé without the clue on the label. It’s another of those rosés that’s a very pale golden apricot colour. And the mousse certainly isn’t urgent. There is a bit of development on the nose, which to me smells more Pinot than Chardonnay, oddly. Miraval Fleur de Miraval Champagne

The finish is bone dry and persistent and the whole still has a little bit of chewiness after a particularly smooth texture. It is far from the best-value pink champagne out there but it is elegant, and not a con. Definitely not good-value but very luxurious.-Jancis Robinson
